Creativity comes from the most amazing places: free time, mischievous minds, waiting for mom to get home, and the kitchen catch-all drawer spilling over with these amazing twisty ties from bread sacks... It's the excitement of an idea. Glee in working with my hands, creating, problem solving. And the building anticipation of my audience's response. How will you channel your creativity today?

Austin SCBWI and the Twin Oaks Branch of the Austin Public Library celebrate the art of children's books. Discover the range of illustration styles and visual storytelling that populate the pages of picture books. During the WEST Austin Studio Tours, work from the following member artists will be on display in the beautiful children's section of the Twin Oaks Branch: Patrice Barton, Tara Flynn Bonner, Jeff Crosby, Rebecca Crosby Komkov, Amy Farrier, Kate Green, Luz Marie Iturbe, Shelley Ann Jackson, C.S. Patriotic Art, Made in Texas

This year I volunteered to create the art for the fundraiser at our school (Forest Trail Elementary, Eanes ISD) for 2 of my children's classes. There was an idea hiding among the cobwebs. I imagined flags made of handprints using batik on canvas. However, when revisiting the process in my planning, I knew it wasn't possible (can't dip little hands in hot wax...after the first one, the rest would go running...). After letting my thoughts simmer, I started sketching, and making lists. Then I dove in, made a sample, fine tuned my method, and went to the school for the final handprints. All of those little hands coming together to create art was really inspiring for me (no screaming at all). I will be making limited edition prints in the near future (available on this website).
